I think HR read the cover letters first. I dont think you should make the cover letter personalised you are applying to an organization not a person, hence it probably asked you if you knew anyone working there before. Further you don't know who is going to read your application so Dear Jane, when Sarah is reading your application cannot be correct!

It's under the Resume/CV manager. It's at the bottom of the screen from where you upload your CV.
I don't see the point of uploading a cover letter though, after already answering questions such as
1. Please describe why you have chosen to apply to UBS, and how you think you would benefit from this program.
2. Please state your first and second choice of business area for work shadowing from: Investment Banking Department, Sales & Trading, Research, Operations, Technology, Finance & Accounting. Please also state how you decided upon these areas
3. Describe the achievement of which you are most proud
4. Please provide details relating to your hobbies, activities and interests. Also include any additional information you think is relevant to your application, including positions of responsibility, membership of any student or other organizations, travel experience or scholarships. You may exclude any hobbies or activities that indirectly or directly disclose race, color, religion, gender, national origin or any other protected classification.
What more could one possibly have to add to a cover letter??
