Not as many as on the old site.

A fellow called Bren just loves telling us about his tips for the Bombay Stock Exchange… all located on another website.

We can implement further protection when registering - one of those boxes with funny looking letters and numbers.

Not sure whether this will help though as this is protection against robots, and I think that the spammers here register as humans - as we have an 'approve through an e-mailed link' policy.

Once they become active, moderators have rights to lock their accounts, but other than that, I'm not sure what could we do.

Thoughts?

Account locking is fine as a means of stopping them.

what about typing in a 4 digit confirmation code  each time one goes to post ? that would at least make it harder for robots to spam

Bots can verify email addresses.

A novel approach would be to have a set, say: {5,1,7,3} then ask the user to order the elements of the set in ascending/descending order when registering. Whilst not full proof, it would certainly stop poorly written bots.

And also make it a hell for you lot to actually use the site..

But we haven't got robot spammers anymore - I don't think - and the confirmation code would be annoying. As well as something a robot could overcome.

Confirmation codes are a pain in the behind. How about a random general banking knowledge question ? <joke>
